Why Your Social Media Posts Aren’t Converting (and How to Fix It)

You may be staring at your social media feeds wondering: “Why the heck aren’t my posts converting anybody?” Whether you are seeking out dollar-related ROI or engagement-related ROI, there are some surefire ways to up your social media game and consistently generate results, in addition to some tell-tale reasons why your social media posts aren’t converting.

Check your audience data

Are you creating content that matches who your target audience is? Dive into the data! Understand who’s a) a fan of your account b) who’s engaging with your account. You might realize one platform is better than the rest for engagement and focus your efforts there.

You need fresh visuals

Perhaps your visuals are what’s lacking in your strategy. The captions may be packed with insights, but if the visual doesn’t catch the audience’s attention, you’re losing precious opportunities. If your visuals are repetitive (using the same photoshoot images or stock photos over and over again) or they lack storytelling elements (used to entice individuals to view themselves within the lifestyle you’re advertising to them), it may be time to evaluate your visuals.

You haven’t utilized micro-influencers

Micro-influencers are users with up to 10,000 followers and who receive higher engagement rates than major influencers who advertise a lot of different brands. You are often able to partner with these smaller influencers for a fraction of the cost, or nothing at all if they are already audience members of yours who are passionate about your cause! Always start there first. Click here for some additional tips on using micro-influencers.

You aren’t prompting engagement

When writing your posts out, prompt your audience to engage. Ask them questions that you’d like to know more about or ask them to “tag a friend in the comments”. Sometimes all you have to do is simply ask!

You haven’t tried targeted paid advertising

Another fantastic solution to gaining more engagements and truly reaching the specific audience you want to captivate is by placing targeted paid ads on Facebook. Here’s my handy guide for mastering this process in 4 easy steps.

You don’t offer giveaways or promos

In addition to your regular content, you may decide to offer a special promotion for a certain period or offer giveaways to entice your audience. These are surefire ways to generate buzz and give back to your audience. Think about the different things you may want to give away – services, products and the like.

You aren’t leveraging your success stories

Social proof is HUGE. When you can share success stories of happy clients/customers, you’re already winning. Taking testimonial words or online reviews and creating intriguing social graphics or captions with them is a great way to generate fresh content and reinforce why your target individual should buy from you.

You aren’t making it a point to tag, tag, tag!

No matter what you’re posting, if it involves another brand or individual, be sure to tag whoever was involved in that subject matter or who is featured in the post’s visual content. If you’re referencing a brand in your caption, tag them. The same goes for geotags (location tags) and hashtags – research the best tags to use for your industry and add location tags for geo-relevant content. Ultimately, leveraging the most outlets possible to get the best reach is vital to social media success.

When you start to pay mind to these very important elements of social media marketing, you will end up crafting a strategy that works for your needs and the needs of your people!
