How to Get Donors by Improving Your Nonprofit Marketing Strategy with Social Media Ads

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We’re living in a social media world, no doubt about it. And not only are more people showing up on social media platforms, but they’re also more inspired to participate in online giving.

Which means more nonprofits are turning to social media to raise funds.

That means one thing for you: your nonprofit marketing strategy needs to be super strong for it to work!

Social media ads could be exactly what you need to get donors for your nonprofit organization.

In this post, I’m sharing why social media ads are so important for your nonprofit marketing strategy.

Plus, I’m giving you my social media ads strategy for how to get donors on Facebook and Instagram!

Why Are Social Media Ads Important for Your Nonprofit Marketing Strategy?

More than likely, you already have a Facebook page or an Instagram account for your nonprofit.

And, as a part of your nonprofit marketing strategy, you are probably posting to it frequently.

So why would you invest the time and money into social media ads if you’re already using organic content?

Simple. Your organic reach has a limit. And it’s a small one at that. With so many people on social media, there’s an infinite amount of content to consume.

And social media prioritizes organic content they think certain people will like and engage with.

That means the organic content you’re using in your nonprofit marketing strategy is fighting with all the other content put in front of your ideal donor.

According to adespresso, the average organic reach for Facebook posts is only 5.2% of the page’s total likes. On top of that, the average engagement rate per organic post is a whopping 0.27%. Not to mention, organic reach lowers every year as more people join social media.

Let’s do some quick math on that. A Global NGO Technology Report showed small nonprofits have an average of 8,722 followers on Facebook. By solely using organic posts, they’re only reaching 453 followers with a single post.

And the engagement rate is even lower than that!

What does that have to do with social media ads, then? Before prioritizing any type of organic content, Facebook prioritizes social media ads.

That means you can raise those organic numbers tenfold by investing in Facebook ads for your nonprofit marketing strategy!
