Want More Donors This Summer? Try These 5 Website Fixes to Spark Monthly Giving

Feeling the Summer Giving Slump? You’re Not Alone.

Summer is historically a quiet season for nonprofit fundraising. But what if your website could become your most powerful tool for attracting recurring monthly donors – even during the dog days of summer?

In this week’s solo episode of Missions to Movements, Dana Snyder breaks down 5 high-impact website fixes that can help you capture attention, build community, and drive evergreen monthly giving growth – without sending a single email.

Whether you’re a nonprofit marketer, development director, or founder, these tips are fast, actionable, and proven to work.

Why Summer Is a Missed Opportunity for Fundraising

While giving tends to dip in the warmer months, consumer retail spending spikes in June, July, and August. In fact, GivingTuesday Data Commons recently shared that if nonprofits made a concerted effort to ask during this season, they could unlock a 25%+ increase in giving, totaling a $22.5 billion opportunity annually.

It’s not about working harder – it’s about working smarter. And it starts with your website.

5 Website Fixes to Grow Monthly Giving This Summer

1. Clarify Your Homepage Messaging

If a new visitor lands on your site, can they immediately tell who you help and why your work matters? Or is your copy too broad?
Make monthly giving prominent in your top header, buttons, and any visible donation forms.

Pro tip: The Trevor Project added a single line—“Monthly giving powers our work”—to their form and saw a 50% increase in recurring donations.

2. Create a Dedicated Monthly Giving Page

Don’t just offer a monthly option on your main donation form. Build a standalone landing page that sells the vision: What does joining your monthly giving community really mean? Why should someone commit long-term?

3. Add Pop-Ups to Your Most Visited Pages

Use Google Analytics to identify your top 5 pages (hint: it’s probably not your homepage). Then add a targeted pop-up that encourages a recurring gift.

🔥 Example: Woodhull Freedom Foundation’s new pop-up reads:

Freedom needs funding.
Monthly donors help us resist, respond, and protect what matters every day.
CTA: Yes, I’m in.

4. Rethink Your Email Sign-Up Language

Stop using “Join our newsletter.” It’s uninspired and easy to ignore.

Try something more engaging. For example:

The resistance has a mailing list.
Sign up for news, action alerts, and bold ideas for building a future rooted in freedom and justice.
CTA: Join in.

5. Clean Your Email List to Boost Engagement

If subscribers haven’t opened your emails in 60+ days, suppress them. Removing unengaged contacts can dramatically improve your open rates and inbox placement.

Don’t Wait for Fall to Ramp Up Fundraising

Summer isn’t a dead zone—it’s an untapped opportunity. With a few simple updates, your website can become a conversion machine for monthly donors, setting you up for even bigger wins in Q4.
