The Female Equation: Danielle Dormand

Reading Time: 2 minutes

One of my favorite things to do is travel! There was a whole industry dedicated to luxury travel I didn’t even know existed until I met Danielle Dormand. Danielle is not only the Co-Founder of Index Select, but she was also my roommate in NYC for three years!

I watched Danielle go through the challenges of leaving a full-time job to start her own company and then transform into an incredible entrepreneur, working countless hours to make sure her clients received only the best.

What is Index Select? Danielle and her team represent the new generation of luxury travel:  they discover and share ‘up-and-coming’ destinations, on-sites and properties, consult on how to successfully operate in a digital, fast-paced world, and develop products and services to engage advisors and increase loyalty with their clients.

When did you decide to start your biz? Was there an “aha” moment?

November 2015 – No ‘aha’ moment, it just kind of happened, and quickly!

What challenge(s) have you overcome and how?

Every single thing I have done from the inception of my business has been a challenge.

Not knowing how to run and operate a business was challenge #1, however you soon learn and it becomes a lot easier as the days go by.

The biggest challenge I faced was a buyout. However, I have learned so much and so happy I went through what I did at the beginning to make me a better business owner moving forward.

Who’s an inspiration or mentor to you in this rollercoaster ride of owning your own biz + one piece of advice they’ve shared with you?

Richard Branson. I was lucky enough to work for him, and then a few times right next to him, I have to say he is my mentor.

My favorite motto of his is, “If someone gives you an opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – and then learn how to do it later!”

Also, an old boss of mine, Nancy. She always has the best advice!

We all need fuel! What’s your current go-to podcast or book right now?

I’m always in the middle of many books!

Right now I am reading “The Sun Is Also A Star” for light bedtime reading, then my current business book is, “You Are a Badass at Making Money.”

What does a “positive equation” look like to you?

Female driven, impactful, and making a difference in the social world.

I agree!!

Danielle Dormand, Index Select
