What Equipment Do You Need For A Virtual Event?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

What equipment do you really need for a virtual event?

If your natural reaction is to:

  1.  Go to Amazon.com
  2.  Type “computer microphones” in the search bar.
  3. Walk away from computer because 4K+ results just popped up.

Let me help you out.

How your event looks and sounds is a big deal.

If done right, your audience will stay engaged, their love for your organization will deepen and ultimately they will donate.

I’ve outlined my top products in each category. They can be ordered on Amazon or curbside pickup from Best Buy.

Microphones:

$0 – Most computers will have semi-decent audio for a live stream.

If you want to upgrade, here are two of my favorites:

  • Movo Lav – $19.95 Perfect for being right at a computer and using the USB plug into a computer. (Does require a lighting adapter $8.99 for newer iPhones) This also allows them to join if they’ll be on the run via their phone.
  • Blue Yeti – $99+ By far the best microphone for live streaming and recording. I use this mic daily and love the quality. It’s been very hard to get a hold of right now, along with any other quality microphone due to COVID.

Lighting:

Rechargeable Ring Light – $17.99 Great for small spaces and focusing lighting directly on someone’s face. If you engage with TicTok or Instagram Reels, most creators use some type of ring light.

More lighting options:

  • Ring Light w/Stand – $39.99 This ring light is better to cover a bigger surface area. If finalists are going to be at an office and want to show off an area around them, this light will do the trick.
  • Swish Mount $39.99 Great option for anyone that will be joining via phone

*Lighting makes a tremendous difference even if someone is using an old computer camera.

Camera:

$0 – Not necessary if an updated computer is being used with good lighting

Additional camera options:

Good: Amcrest – $39.99 1080p camera (microphone isn’t great)

Better: Aoboco w/ Light – $58.85 1080p camera with ring light and microphone (great if you want to eliminate a light purchase + camera)

Best: Logitech – $79.99 1080p camera, known as a quality brand but has often been out of stock

If you need any help choosing the right options for you and your event, or just need someone to bounce ideas off of, let’s chat!
